My first Blog, Work in Progress (not the real title of image), Oil on Canvas.

Date: Thursday, 3rd February 2022 Image 1

This painting began nearly two years ago, a landscape painting of fields and animals. It was a beautiful image, but it was made with the intention of wanting to sell art. I left the painting in my studio, looking at it from time to time, waiting for the right moment to pick it up and finish it or change it. Sometimes when I’m painting if I don’t feel a response to the painting, I leave it until such a time in the future the painting will call to me again. This process can add a lot of texture to my paintings.

Last week, I plucked up the courage to sand the image down and begin again. I began with loose lines and I’m loving the process so far, and i can’t wait to see where this painting might take me. I hope to take you with me on my art journey.

I came back to the painting the next day and could not stop myself from adding more marks, creating more movement and structure.  I create shadows instinctively using browns and dark greens.

Shadows…. Change in colour, depth, and shape, according to the time of day or season.

The most common role of shadow in my opinion, is the composition of a painting, you can see this begin to develop in image five.  The painting is still loose in appearance. How do you think the painting is progressing? And has it changed much from the first image below?
